Summary: Nani's Gang Leader

As of the last few weeks of the school year, I have now suddenly gotten into Indian Cinema and I cannot express the substantial amount of joy it brings me to watch these movies. Like why have I never seen more than two of these before this recent decision of mine? And now my list is like 93 movies long! (I don't have a problem, it's fine :D)

Anyways, today's movie: Gang Leader starring Nani

Part of me doesn't even know where to start with this. This movie was great, it just requires a tad bit more suspension of belief than I expected when I started the movie. All Indian movies require more suspension of belief than normal, but like this one REALLY does. I can understand why that would make it hard to get into but it's so worth it, in my humble opinion.

So here's the thing, when the movie starts with a high stakes bank robbery scene where one of the robbers shoots and kills the other five and steals all the money for himself, I'm expecting an Ocean's 11 type movie. Large scale robbery, murder, and then a police chase scene? Heck yeah, I'm all for that.

And then the next scene is an old lady who got together these four other women and girls because they're all relatives of the people who died that night. This lady tells them that their plan hinges on them finding this revenge story book author because, since he's written and published 28 revenge story novels, he must be able to outsmart the killer and they can find him and kill him.

MMMM YES, because logical thinking. (Remember, suspend your belief.)

But they actually find him! WIN!

This guy is copying an old American movie down word for word. Because he's actually one of the dumbest people ever.

Except he's not because he can actually think things through and play scenarios in his head to see what they should do next, and he does it repeatedly throughout the movie. And somehow, his plans work... But you would never guess it would be possible because my guy is so stupid.

I think my favorite thing is that the last like 30 minutes of the movie are this guy, WHO BY THE WAY, HIS PEN NAME IS "PENCIL" AND I'M NOT EVEN JOKING!

Pencil confronts the killer and then he fights him by himself in the killer's garage and then he drops a car on him and sets the place on fire, and I'm over here, sitting on my comfy couch, thinking: waht. Since when did this guy know how to do any of that? Hello???

Beautiful execution. Truly I don't know whether the guy is smart or not, but he's foolish, that's for sure. And he's so enjoyable to watch, especially since he's played by Nani <3. Nani is such an enjoyable actor to watch in like all the (what, 4?) things I've seen him in so far.

Backing up a tad bit, there's this one scene where Pencil realizes they have to get the security tape of this ATM for evidence reasons, and he tells one of the girls who he's been working with (one of the five aforementioned women) to go flirt with the boss of the bank/ATM. And she goes and she realizes "oh wait, this guy likes men". So she comes back and she's like "Pencil, he's into men, so you should go flirt with him to get the footage". Cue this man in the most uncomfortable situation he's likely ever been in because he just does not know how to deal with the attention. I don't know if I just ignored the second hand embarrassment or what, but that was a HILARIOUS scene.

Anyways, beautiful amazing movie, I definitely recommend it. Music is on point, the plot does it's thing, as much as you'd (not) expect. You just have to nod along and not try to make it make sense! :D
